Schnell short shift kit for 944
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/PORSC...QQcmdZViewItem
Does anyone have a short shift kit in their 944? Is it worth and how smooth is it? I personally think the throw is kind of long in the 944 so this should definitely make an improvement especially on the race track. What do you guys think? Also, how difficult is it to install?

SFR ssk in my car. I spent $75 for it and the momo ****. it is quite smooth, although i am going to have to fab a different boot for it as there is just too much extra. I personally like the feel of it. And it was ~10 minute install.

i've got the weltmeister one at the tranny, instead of lowering my shift **** like most. well, it does a little bit, but i dont like that "shifter inside the shift boot" look. i dont know, i always like a longer shifter. dont ask me why, but i just like to feel like i'm moving something.

Alot of this stuff your asking has been covered in great lengths.
I have a similar one made my 944Racing. Speed-6 also distrubutes the same one.
This is similar to the Weltmeister one that goes on the tranny linkage. Probably the best option, i have heard problems with the SFR rattling from vibration. Shortens the throw and makes it a bit more notchy ( a good thing in my opinion). You can install it without even jacking the car up if your a small guy, all you really need is a flash light or work light to see what your doing. I found it helpful to bend the muffler heatshield a little to get more working room.

Schnell is the only manufaturer with the Short Shift kit for the 944 & 944 Turbo.
It looks identical to the 944racing one. I really wanted one at one point, but I'm not so sure right now...the feeling of throwing it FAR into 5th while accelerating onto the highway is just awesome...

those things are one of the best things you can do toyour car in under 10 min. MOST of the time.
if it doesnt go on smoothly. DONT force it. dremel or sand out the inside of it and try again. once its on and you get it prepare to be amazed.

944Race here, mounted at the tranny after having to open the hole a little and replaced my football'd shift lever as well. I hated getting into a hairpinned incline, trying to down shift into second and grinding up a pound of reverse. It was that bad.

If you buy one that goes on the transmission then I would get one that has two positions like the Weltmeister. I bought one that only had one position and the shift was to short for me. I felt like I was going to ruin synchronizers and it was to gated. I took it to the local welding shop and had it modifyed, the bottom part lengthed 1/4" and the top shortened 1/4". If you get an ajustable one then you can decide the setting you like best.

I actually have a Schnell SSK in my 996. The installation was around 2 hours, good instructions however, I also reviewed the B&M literature and compiled my own protocol. The quality was exceptional and to this date, I wish Porsche made this a standard.

I had one and it always came off since the hole is round. I made my own block with the proper D shaped hole on a wire EDM machine now It's perfect fit and function
