Default Trouble shoot a speedo?

I've got the shopmanual on disc, but it does'nt have a section on speedo repair. Does anyone know if it's in the books? I'd like to troubleshoot this. I've already cleaned the connection and changed out the trans drive unit and checked the gears in the trans. Any help would be great! I don't want to blindly change parts.

Does it work at all? Does it die out intermittently? I had this problem with my dad's 928S - I fiddled with the connections for the speedo sensor by the differential (I guess on a 944 it would be the tranny) and it fixed it. Checking grounds would be a logical first step though - if it doesn't fix the speedo, it'll probably fix something else.

At first it was just the odometer. Then just before I got the odo gear, the speedo stopped altogether. I changed the odometer gear and didn't see anything out of the ordinary in the speedo. If I knew what signal I should get from the tranny sensor I can isolate one or the other as the problem. Been cleaning grounds as I find'em. The tranny sensor is made by vdo, I'm check with them somehow on the net. TNX Alex
