I usually like the Borla mufflers as they usually are relatively quiet when driving normal and really open up when you get on it. My choices are:

1) Borla
2) Hooker Aero Chamber
3) Flomaster
4) Dynomax

There are probably alot of other's out there but I am looking for something that is not going to wake up the neighborhood but at the same time, give my car a little extra breathing. I know it probably won't increase much HP but I am sure it will give me a little and with the decrease weight, every bit helps.

Has anyone tried any of these mufflers on their 944 without changing the entire exhaust system? I am thinking about just welding it in place of the stock one. Your comments are much appreciated. TIA!

Im not 100% sure which muffler the SFR cat-back uses, i believe its the XR-1. Its what i have on my car.

Not super loud when your just crusing, but real loud when your on it. Here it is on my car...

I like my magnaflow. It's pretty quiet for aftermarket mufflers. If you want to hear it, I'm in Cupertino.
I definately do not wake up the neighborhood, but it is a little bit louder than stock.

I got a Magnaflow "11226" and a stock tip.

i have flowmaster because i couldnt find much else locally. and i was sick of the muffler show trying to do a hack job on it, so i just got the muffler myself. its moderately loud. but cruising speeds (55-70) its not enough to cause a headache, and you can still hear the radio fine. ive gotten a few compliments on it. doesnt sound like a 4 cylinder

i've always heard good things about borla. in fact, GRM magazine had a 944 project car they put a borla muffler on, and it gained a few hp.

i've got an edelbrock muffler with a straight pipe. it sounds pretty aggressive, but sounded nearly stock with the catalytic converter. go figure.

Borla mufflers usually command a premium in price but i had them on 3 of my cars and they were just great. Nice deep rumbly sound. The best one was on my 1.6 Miata when it was turning around 7K CAn't wait to get my hands on one of SFR systems with Borla/hi-flo cat in another year or so
If BOrla is not available, Flowmaster is great too. I have Dynomax on my Rabbit right now and it's definately not as good as Borla.

I have a Borla on my S2, and I think its alright. Its a bit drone-y when cruising. I'd prefer something crisper and less burbley sounding. I'd like to see what a Spintech sounds like on there both with and without a cat.

If you're not afraid to spend a bit, look into Remus' universal line. These aren't overly loud but they're real high end. They actually tune the sound of the muffler to get it jsut right.

Another issue is weight as I want something that is lighter than my stock muffler so I can save a few pounds. I know you usually get what you pay for but I have to narrow down to a 2.25 or 2.5" inlet muffler.

Does anyone have the weight of the specific mufflers than can fit under the car?
