I found a furniture upholsterer who recovered by cassete box lid for $20 and replaced the foam backing. The hinge was RS so I removed it and it's now held in place with some strategically glued bits of velcro. Works fine as long as you don't want to open it too often.

The bad thing about the armrest is the position as you lean on it while you reach over. That is how I broke mine. All it takes is a small split on the plastic seam and when you apply a sideward force to it, it just rips it apart.

Does anyone know of a specific hinge and where to buy it at, that can be used to remount the top cover back onto the plastic piece?
