The smoke could have been pre-existing (prior to the chip install), who knows. Need more data!

ok this is interesting. I called a buddy up that told me to bring my car down during lunch and he'll fix the smoke thing. Now, the car doesn't smoke at all!!! It doesn't even pop that much anymore when you rev it! He said there is a hex screw on the AFM that you can adjust with an allen wrench. I popped the hood open and saw it. Apparently he leaned it out a little and the car runs great!
Now which way would it be to turn the screw to richen it or lean it should I run into this problem going back to the stock setup chip for smog?
BTW: no more chance of flames guys. Sorry.

Well as soon as I find out how he leaned the car off I can richen it the same way again and take a brief film of black smoke and flames!

yeah, i wanna know how he did that too, the richness in my engine is intermittent. sometimes it's relaly rich, sometimes it's normal, and when it's really rich, it idles at 1.5-2k.. WEIRD.

See my previous post on this thread. Normally the NA will run on 87 octane but I made a mistake and put 87 octane in the gas tank and got alot of pinging during hard acceleration in power prom mode, once I too the jumper off to put the car back to normal mode the pinging went away and the car drove like before the chip was installed. This indicates that in power prom mode the timing is set quite aggressively.

just what does a pinging 944 sound like? I have this 'tinny' sound in my exhaust after 4,500 RPM, at least that's what it sounds like it's coming from...somewhere under the car. Is that pinging? I figured it could just be the fact that the car is running richer and that it could be the fact that my car has a straight through exhaust.

the screw affects the CO level at all engine speeds. If you turn the screw clockwise, you are allowing a richer mixture, which reduces the CO level but creates more unburned hydrocarbons. This is because when you turn the screw clockwise, you are allowing less unmetered air to enter the engine which means there is more fuel unburned.

and also, you'd be surpised at how much this screw can change the mixture even if you are running in closed loop...if you turned it fully clockwise, you could be driving down the street looking like you had a diesel in there...if I were you, I wouldnt touch it unless you have a A/F gauge to see exactly what your actions are doing
