Sean, as far as i know FRWilk does make a chip for the '88 and even the 2.7L '89 cars.

http://frwilk.com/944dme/

Im looking foward to seeing Wilk's HFM5 conversion. Basically a replacement to the AFM on the n/a cars. Looks promising, and if its nearly as good as his chip...may just be worth the price of admission.

mapping is an issue on the 944 though. You don't want it to run too rich now. Coming back from lunch today I noticed a small amount of smoke coming from the exhaust at 5,000-6,000 RPM when I let it out. I also have a 'tinny' sound coming from the car after 4500 RPM. I'm thinking that this has to do with the fact the car runs richer in higher RPMs. The tinny sound coming from the muffler and piping because it's larger and straight through. I have seen Ferraris smoke a little similar to what I saw today when the car reaches high RPMs.

This is a good example that the chip definitely richens the fuel mixture to give the car a little more edge in the higher RPMs and optimizes the air/fuel ratios. If it could be improved upon anymore, I fear a large amount of black smoke and repeated backfires.

I just want some fire to come out of my exhaust, thats all i ask!

Im confident if i put my old FPR back on and took the cat off i would get that! It ran so rich my eyes would tear from the exhaust. Hell i used to tell my friends in a serious matter to not smoke next to my car.

ok poll time then! hehehe

Who wants me to put a straight pipe on the car with the Wilk chip and keep this exhaust on:

And take a video of me pissing off all my neighbors accelerating away with a 110 dB 944?

Without too much effort you can hook up a switch to the "bypass plug" and be able to switch back and forth. I turn the ignition off first before I make the switch so not to screw something up. Using the switch you can switch back and forth to compare the two modes but the car is just more fun to drive in power prom mode. NOT a turbo but more fun than before.

Have you taken it to 7000rpm yet? You can do 0 to 60 runs with out up shifting to 3rd as the rev limiter will not intrude until you reach 7000rpm.

With the gas prices as they are, I made the mistake of filling up with 87 octane as I use to do before installing the chip and the car pinged something awful in power prom mode, I switched it back to stock settings then things were back to normal until I ran the 87 octane down. It runs great with 89 octane in power prom mode (no pinging) but I guess that will depend on the condition of your motor.

Best bang for the buck that I have found for an NA so far.

KYBs yup. All the way around. Do I autocross with them? yes. Do I like them? yes. Are they stiffer than NEW BOGE shocks? YES. I actually don't mind them. When I update to 968 rear M030 shocks with the helper springs I'm going to go Koni in the front though with the ride height kit from Paragon. For now, that is the most inexpensive shock to improve the handling on my car that is compatible with my M030 sways and 220 lb springs

Oh the rear pipe is a megaphone. Old 911s used to have megaphones that were raced to give the maximum flow of exhaust. They attached to the headers. I decided to go with a megaphone for a racing exhaust because of the vintage look of the tip and that it was a homologated racing exhaust for vintage Porsches....it's not for the 944 though; but I like to be unique and lighter

Stig, i hear you said it runs rich.. maybe something's not quite right? I've heard that poeple generally get BETTER gas mileage with teh chip. at least that's what i've read from users on pelican.
