Default My lights get brighter at 5k RPM

Well just like the title says i can be cruising normal and shift at 3k or a little over but if i get on it and run the RPM up to 5K before shifting my lights get brighter till the RPMs drop. Does this have somthing to do with the alternator. I figured its pushing more current or voltage W/E at the higher RPM but why aren't my lights always that bright. most importanly how can i get them to stay that bright.

You can try by cleaning up your contacts and grounds that will help but I think that what you REALLY want is one of the iceshark kits. https://rennlist.com/forums/showthre...light=iceshark

what's the voltage regulator looking like on your alternator?

The modern alternator, unlike the old generator that cars used to use, doesn't need high RPM to produce the required current (modern alternator is AC current, old generator is DC current). The low RPM charge from the modern AC alternators of today (which your 944 has) is a great advantage. The modern alternator usually has three banks/coils that produce the current with circuits to convert it to DC. If one of your coils goes bad, your alternator will still charge but with less juice (another advantage of the modern alternator). Just a hunch, but it might be a sign that one of your coils is dead and it's time to replace the alternator before it's too late... there could also be a problem with your regulator but I think it's build into the alternator anyway.
Just my two cents.

The regulators are easily changed out...being under a "cap" on the Alternator. Ice Shark has provided upgraded regulators for many of us.

Check the voltage at the battery at 5000 rpms before you toast your battery.

I dont run my car up to 5k i only realized this happened when i forgot to dissable the cruise control when i shifted to nuetral. After i noticed that the lights had gotten brighter i reved it to 5k once more and it got brighter again. Thats how i came to the conclusion that at 5k my lights get brighter.

Jim how much for the regulators? how many regulators are in the alternator?
