Default 924S Odometer Question

Ok I have pulled my odometer out of my car and taken it apart. It is a mechanical odometer in KPH with a ten tooth gear. The gear driven by the worm gear is in good shape, minimal wear, so I figured that I would try a little superglue to make it adhear to the shaft better to turn the Odo. I did this let it dry and used a drill to test the odometer. No dice. both gears and the shaft through the 10 tooth gear turn with the drill but the numbers do not rotate. It appears that the grey gear which drives the numbers is not attached to the shaft through the center so as the shaft rotates it does not . You can turn this gear by hand and both the trip and odometer rotate properly. Does anyone know how this grey gear is supposed to attach to the shaft? Is there supposed to be a spline on the shaft or was it just glued to the shaft. This is frustrating cause I want to get the car back on the road.

TIA

cheers

I had the same problem with one of my odometers - that gray gear isn't supposed to spin on the shaft. I used a drop or two of red loctite around where the shaft goes through the gear. It's tricky maneuvering your way in there to get the loctite on, so I used the paste loctite with a toothpick. I think liquid loctite and a toothpick (or a coffee straw or something) might be better though. Don't spill it on the numbered wheels! and you're good to go.

Thanks Arash. that is what I figured needed to be done. I did try a liquid crazy glue but that hasn't worked yet so I am gonna get a gel style glue or loctite. It is just a real pain in the *** getting in there to get it on the right spot.

ive done a write up on this a few times, try a search. i use a spacer to keep the shaft from moving as well as the gear. PUsh the shaft all the way towards the ps and put a spacer in between the housing -and the gear-then glue the gear on after that.

xsboost90 I did actually already read your writeups they do help but my problem is different. My worm gear has no problem driving the other small gear. The grey gear which spins the number is not attached to the main shaft through the numbers so the numbers do not turn while the shaft rotates. I am gonna try and glue that gear to the shaft and see how that works.

thanks

I think the grey gear on the end has too. Its the only way that the numbers would increase as the white gear rotates.
