Default Changed trans/diff fluid, WOW!

Some of you might remember my previous posts about the car shuttering when its cold.
It would only happen when its been sitting for a week, i backed it out of the garage and put it in 1st, as i am taking of i would get a violent shutter coming from the rear at takeoff. Almost like i was not giving it enough gas.
It also did it intermittently after the car was warmed up, not as bad thought.
Thats ALL gone now!
I changed the transmission fluid and it shifts better, its a little quieter on the highway and NO SHUTTER!
The guy told me when he drained the fluid it seemed low compared to what he had to put in. There is no spots on my garage floor so i know its not leaking so the previous shop must have not put enough oil in when i last had it replaced
Im glad because i thought my clutch or transmission was going bad
Heres a couple pics and some misc pics from the undercarriage.

Sweet ride! I've been thinking of doing that as well, but I have no symptoms. A little quieter would be nice, but not needed.

Awesome car! I don't know how anyone could not completely fill the transmission - just pour fluid in until it spills out of the filler hole... Glad it's good to go now

Nice job.

FWIW - I have always loved those particular wheels on these cars. Not sure, but they may just be my all-time favorite.

Never sell them (unless of course it is to me).

Hard to believe that could fix a shudder.

Correct for the late 968, but not necessarily for the 944 line. Level should come to rest 6-8mm below the top plug. However, for those equipped with cooler, filling until it spills out can be the right idea.

For more on that, see here: http://www.tech-session.com/kb/index...x_v2&id=54&c=4

Good Luck!

How did you get the transmission so clean? i have a leak (suspecting the differential/axle seal) but very hard to detect, even with adding fuel and diesel to clean, it is still messy

My mech told me there was a PINT in mine when he drained it. It shifts quite a bit better now.

Yep, Redline's the magic juice. It's great fun to use a transaxle well maintained by the PO, and Redline only makes it better.

Skip, any adverse consequences to filling a normal 944's case until it spills out? I did that, and I'd rather not fool with those plugs to drain some out, if I don't need to.

You got the right juice in there, but the tranny doesn't look that clean to me. From the second picture it looks like you have axle seals that are leaking. That would explain your slight loss of fluid.

StoogeMoe, i don't have any drops on the garage floor and even though it looks like "wet" oil(camera flash) its dry. I doubt its leaking oil. Oh and when they where filling it they stopped right when oil started flowing out of the fill hole.

The measures and capacities in the factory manuals should generally be adhered to if at all possible. I can imagine a good reason for not overfilling is to prevent leaks and to allow the lube to travel as intended to all parts of the transmission. I'm sure many would leave it - especially since many have done it. However, it wouldn't be too hard to remove the top plug and use a syringe to remove the excess. Cheap syringe at a local hardware/parts store should be no more than a few bucks. Great tool to have.

Then again, I'm the one who measured in tablespoons exactly how much ATF should be added to rebuildable front struts in order to fill them 2/3 full with strut inserted. It's 3 tablespoons.
