Ok, need to ask for a vote on the exhaust. Leave it as is or cut it about 1/2" outside of the fender(roughly where the tape line is). I may wait untill the rear is done to see how things look. What do you guys think??

pretty impressive. are you using the same gauge of steel? you could add some mesh behind the front fender gaps

The metal I added is from a spare wrecked hood(same ga). I would only add German metal to this car, just how I am, lol. I plan to add about 1/2"-1" tails to the fenders and some form of mesh. That's what they did with the 74 RSR and I liked the look.
As far as the exhaust goes, I'll most likely do a burn sheild around the pipe.

The only bad thing about leaving the exhaust there is the residue you will get when the turbo kicks in (on the doors). Other than that, heck it looks cool!

Yeah, I was kinda thing that I'm not so concerned with the suit and burns. I think most race cars look better after a few laps really. Kinda the ole battle scars thing.

That is going to be amazing.
(LOL about leaving the argon on... I've done that a few too many times myself when welding bike frames!)
I think it is neat looking at the pics of the new strip welded in. I notice that you are butting it to the cut edges, instead of lapping. What are you planning to do for finishing the un-welded portion of the seam? Sorry for asking so many questions, I am just interested in learning. I am very impressed with your initiative and skills.

Thanks, I'm going to go back and double tach weld in between on the outside and weld what is left on the inside. Welding a solid weld on sheet metal is almost a definate for warping the pannel. Also the heat from grinding a solid weld would do the same. I'll leave the extra beef on the inside and skim the outer after I go back a few more times. I also need to work it out straighter before filler.
I probably won't have the final touches on the fronts but I'll get it into primer and move to the rear. Then the fun begins, lol.
