Hey if someone on the third coast needs a place to stay until the storm passes let me know, I'm in San Antonio. I have a couch and a inflatable bed. 3 small yapper dogs, but they won't bother you much.

Ditto....
I work at a hotel in Myrtle Beach SC. If you want to get away for a while, shoot me an email. I can give a $25.00 employee rate per night to all rennlisters and their families!
Stay safe!

Hey, thanks for thinking of us! I'm far enough north (I hope) that I'll just have some roof damage, no electricity, and a lot of cleaning up of tree branches to do.
I was here during Alicia in 1983. We had lots of rain, wind, and some tornadoes but not much damage overall. Man the lines at gas stations the last two days have been nuts. All of the grocery stores are out of bottled water and bread. I'm going to work tomorrow, and will try to find some "extras" on the way in.

We're debating what we're going to do. We're 75 miles north of the coast in NE Houston (Kingwood). First we were staying, then we were leaving, now we are on the fence. We're watching the news VERY closely.

We're getting plywood first thing in the morning and covering windows. We'll decide after that.

Anybody hear from the Clear Lake boys? I know both of them are too close to the coast to be staying. If either of you guys want, I'll be at the house.
From the live traffic camera shots I've seen, it's going to take upward of 12 hours to get out of Houston now. I just saw a report on TV that one person took 12 hours to get from Clear Lake to Conroe, that's normally an hour and a half or so.
Geo, good luck finding plywood. I spent most of the day yesterday getting basic stuff, water, bread, batteries. That stuff was scarce at best. If you can't find water, try putting a bag inside a large trash can, and filling it.

If you wait too long to leave you will be stuck in traffic with nowhere to go. Thats why I have always stayed. On the other hand the traffic really clears out just before the storm hits..risky though.

To our fellow Texas Rennlisters... be careful and be safe.
Seeing how we have a little experience in the last year with these things, if you can get your hands on some PLYLOX for your windows at your local hardware store, they do work well and they beat drilling screws into your home making more places for water to leak in. I must admit that plywood isn't going to help too much for flying debris in a CAT5 though. Please be very careful and know that Florida is hoping the best for you all.

Looks like we're in for a ride allright. We've decided to stay - for now. Kids tried to book for Longview at 6pm yesterday - finally turned back at 4am when they STILL hadn't reached Conroe. They are safe here at the house. News is estimating 70 mph winds in Katy if the storm hits Galveston. Not how I wanted to spend my weekend.

If that's 70mph sustained watch out for trees blowing over. Even in 40mph or so with saturated ground I had a pretty big tree come down. Get anything that isn't tied down or bolted to cement inside... all plants, lawn furniture, etc. and watch out for anything hanging in your breezeway that will slam against windows.
If you have a pool, throw in the patio furniture!
Worst thing is that your neighbors won't put their stuff up and it ends up in your window.
Good luck!!!
