Default Autocross Question?

Currently I'm in B/SS class due to my upgraded front and rear sway bars and R tires.

I would like to go back to stock class because I don't want to spend the bucks to take full advantage of points in SS.

I want to keep the tires, so my options are to downgrade the bars. Which one? Or can I add some upgrades that I don't know about that are cost effective.. One guy suggests to downgrade the rear sway and adjust my camber in the front.

I like the way the car is handling now. Too tell you the truth, I'm the only one in my class, so I have no competition, but it would be nice to take advantage of my stock class and do the best I can with that.

What do you think?

cars that were equipped with front and rear sway bars had 21.5 mm front and 14 mm rear in '83 according to my owners manual...84's had 23mm....i'd see if i could get away with a 23mm if i were you

Why just one bar?

To get proper balance you need to have the bars match both front and rear.

Simply taking the bar off means bad handling.

You can run the stock optional bars for free. I guess those would be 23 mm and 14mm.

What sway bars are you running now?

PS... better to go to stock bars than get rid of the R-tires as they are worth much more time.

I have 86 Turbo bars on. 24 and 18?, I think

I wouldn't take one off but downgrade it.

One question? My car never came with a rear sway bar, so putting one on (stock) add a point?. I guess it wouldn't matter as I'm allowed 2 points in stock.

Joe, I love the R's, I put a used set on V710's and they are great, I can't imagine what fresh one's would be like.

Maybe I'm trying to fix something that isn't broke.

Your car came with a rear sway bar 14mm as an option. So put the "optional" sway bars on for zero points.

My 83 came with only the front sway bar. My 84 that became my 944-spec came with the optional front and rear sway bars. Since I don't need them on my 84 race car I put them on my 83 autocross car. The car run stock with zero points. I chose to run it on street tires.

You are allowed 2 points in stock right.

How many points for R tires? What tire size are you running?

Are the points for each sway bar for upgraded sway bars (plural?).

One point for each sway bar and one for R's 225/50/15's = 3 points. Pushes me from stock to SS.

In SS the tires are free. So I have two points in C/SS (thought I was in B/SS) and I can have up to 6 points.

Well the one point for each seems stupid.

Well thems the rules so.

Go to stock front sway bar at 22mm and try to 14mm rear. They should be easy to get. Keep the turbo bar as you might want to use that if you want more oversteer in the car.

These cars tend to have understeer, but I have found my 83 to be very well balanced. On my car I would not put a bigger rear bar on it. Your car maybe different.

You should come down to Arizona.

Our racing season is just starting back-up after the summer break.

NASA has road racing/open track event this weekend and the PCA is having our annual autocross school and first autocross of the season. Weather is looking good too. Should be under 100F.

0.83- This is the one from the 924S and 88 944. The 951 also used this gearset, but with a taller final drive.

I couldn't afford to autocross all year, I have to drive 180 miles round trip each time we have an event. The times I do go, worth every penny.
