*&%#$*@ speedo gear stopped working
for now its got 89064 on it and not counting...
This just after: New radiator and hoses.
Other upgrades since 1st of the year:
New clutch, etc
New Control arms+bushings+ball joints
New shocks/struts
New/used carpet and Porsche script seats
IceShark cable kit
Normal tune up stuff
At some point here things should stop breaking right?
Anyway, off to odometergears.nom or whatever to get a 17 tooth replacement.

Oh man you can't get it from odometergears.com when a Rennlist sponsor makes/sells the 944 odometer gear!

Quick note... we don't make the ones for the early cars because its a waste in my eyes. The early cars have their gears attached to a shaft. What happens is the gear comes loose from the shaft and does not turn the gauge.
The fix, or what works for me and most of the people I pass this along to, super glue. Its used because its thin enough to get between the gear and shaft and secure it. Just glue your gear back to the shaft and you should be in business.
We could easily make the early gears but why?? Make yours crumble like the late ones so it can't be fixed them we might look into it. All the ones I see seem to stay intact.

I took it apart today. Its cracked. I'll be orderint a new one. 17 teeth and its red. Hopefully superglue will work for the short term.
Also all the FAQ's and note on this for early cars suck. The trim ringis pressed AROUND the guage pod, not pressed into it. It has to be pried away from the guage body and will never look like new from the back again.

Yep, that crimped ring is a buzz kill.
Tip: If the flanged gromet that holds the speedo breaks use a section of the self-adhesive velcro, the looped side, as your new gromet. Guaranteed no squeeks!

usually the gear just pulls out away from the big gear and stops spinning. If you just glue it back, then the whole shaft will move. You need to pull the shaft until it hits its stopper on the other side, then make a spacer- you can use the loop end of an electrical butt connector- and then glue the gear on. Ive done this and its worked, though i think my gear has a chipped tooth somewhere as it will intermintently work still on and off.
