Another stripped bolt
I finally got over to Sears (its hard mooching rides that far!) yesterday and picked up some tools I needed to finish the trans job -- but not that craftsman bolt extracter...$60 is about 70$ more then what I have! -- and I just started working on it.
The 8mm allen bolt on the clamping sleeve in the trans...is rounded off. I haven't even TOUCHED this one yet some obviously someone else in this cars history has tried. That could be a possible explanation for some of the stripped/semi stripped when I started cheeseheads on the CV joints...
Would hammering in a 9mm allen head bolt be the best bet? That would mean I have to wait another week for money and a ride over to Sears...so is there anything else you guys suggest?
Thanks
Mike

Sears also carries a stud extractor set from Lisle that is a lot less expensive - I picked it up for removing a stripped stud from the block . You hammer them on to get them to bite the rounded off bolt and gingerly back the bolt out. If it's frozen I recommend some PB blaster first. Take your time and good luck!!!

Nailing in a 9mm Allen might be too big to get it to start.
You might try niling in a Torx, triple square or other star bit. I've done that with success. Some penetrating oil and then the nailing operation helps to loosen it.
