Default Whine comming from under hood after removing timing covers

I kept my timing belt covers off after doing the belts and head gasket and now there seams to be a distinct whine coming from right in that area. It increases in volume as the revs climb. Is this a normal noise that the covers would have otherwise covered up? Or did I make the belts too tight?

Yup...it makes it a LOT easier to get to to tension and inspect and all that...of course...it makes it a lot easier for a rock or bolt to fly up in it to....oh well!

Check the tension. Even if the belts are just a tad overtightened theyll whine.

Should have heard my car after I did my waterpump job and overtightened the belts... Sounded superhcharged! Sounded great downtown though, and in a parking garage

I ran without covers for awhile..but only until I get 1500 miles for the retensioning...still hasn't happened yet!

and it whines! some people say it makes it sound like a toy others a supercharger..either way the belt covers should muffle it a little?

yeah. i was driving behind a guy in my weight training class last year. and when i walked in the next day he was bragging about "ashton's supercharged porsche" !!

bloodraven. me and dad have a year and a half and counting with no bolts/rocks. and my red car regularly saw dirt roads and rally action.
which pretty much tells me if i just spun out going 30 on a gravel road and rocks are flying all over the place and one doesnt go into the belts. none ever will
