9.5k should definately get you a pretty nice 951; the differences in upgradeablity are immense - with the natually aspirated motor you are pretty much limited to stock hp +- 20 or so hp (and that's optimistic...), but with a 951 400+ rwhp is not a difficult thing to obtain...

I say stick it out and try to find a 951, its tough to wait - I got rid of my n/a a few months ago and have been looking for a 951 for about 6 months now and still haven't found the right one...these things take time

well you can find a very nice 87 951 for 9.5 k. The 944s (sorry guys) really is just a 944. The 951 is a whole different level. It comes faster than most 944 n/as. The only really big down side to the 951 is the fact that its a turbo and the motor isn't the strongest and you will become a good mechanic owning one.

But 9.5k for a 944s is not worth it. If your going to spend that money get a 951 with low miles and thats in good condition for 10-11k. the 951 is such a different level when it comes to these cars.

9,500 loonies is only $8000 in US greenbacks. In the USA ou can get a pretty darn good 951 for $8k, especially with winter coming on. Not a really, really nice one, but a good one nonetheless.

If you want a car to modify for performance, get the 951. If you plan to drive the car stock, I suggest an S2 but the S is pretty good too.

I've had a turbo walk my S with ease. Wait for the 951, too pricey for the S unless it's very low mile and cherry.

i agree, that price is high for a 944S and you can certainly find a nice S2 or 951 for that price.

in defense, however, i have my S posted for sale for a similar price (which i realize is high), but practically everything mechanical on the car is new or rebuilt. the engine should last another 100K at least.

so bottom line is.....look at what you're getting. you can get a near concours S for that price, or a regular street-driven S2 or 951.

my crashed "s" had extremely quick acceleration 70-100, 16v/higher compression.

not the real hi speed, stretchout of the 951.

timing's everything. a week after the crash i found the current 951. po an ase, argentenian shop mech here, had a baby on the way. grew up working on all the sophisticated stuff in his homeland before coming here.

fresh engine, 276 turbo, boxter s wheels, r12.

they each have +'s and -'s good luck in the search.

If the turbo seems risky, then look for a good 3.0L NA car. An S2 or a 968. Great cars, and plenty of power and great low-end torque. Not easy to get much more than stock HP without serious work. With the Turbo, reliable 300-350HP is available with well-proved add on parts.

Vlad. It take you are in Canada. 9 1/2 should put the car on good bordering excellent with all maint/service up to date. A really good 951 will fetch low 20s and there are plenty not so good ones around and unless you luv projects and don't care if you won't drive for 1/2 to 1 yr wait. 944s are a good bet to get into the experience, so to speak, and if you budget 6-9 you should find something that you can drive without having to spend serious coin on maint. The west coast has most 944/951s from what I can tell so I guess it also depends on where you is. Most of the folks on this forum are in the states and prices are way south of us. No pun intended of course.

I would pay $9500 for a well-prepped, well-sorted, nice, 944S over a bonestock, unprepped, un-sorted 951/S2 anyday. Not many people take the time and money into account that it takes to sort out a car properly and make it something special.
