Bad things always happen just AFTER filling up.

Thumbs up

Well....actually it is pretty good timing. I mean you get to spend the long weekend getting under your baby, and Cambria had what your looking for (yes, I'm affiliated!) so local pick-up is cake. Glad to hear that end went smoothly.

Geoff, draw strength from the omnipotent pool of DIY Porsche energy collecting over this long weekend. And we'll throw a couple back for ya'

Ok. Trans had 160K on it, Prolly about 800+ of that was track/autocross driving. Not to mention, I REGULARLY heel/toe downshift, and lately that was getting sloppy... getting notchy, so I knew my time was soon...

Moe, I was planning on doing that... you free tomorrow? could you PM a phone number to me? I live right by your work....kinda... Ken Caryl and Kipling...

Tifo, the case isn't cracked, so I'm half tempted to make it a long-term project, rebuild it, put a limited slip in there, maybe screw around with gear ratios, cryo'd gears and r&p...etc...etc... but, it'll be a LONG time before I get to that...need more money and time, which as a college student, I don't have much of either, so if you wanna buy it for research, no prob. PM me.

I got a used transmission from a 1987 944 to put in there, it's got 110,000 on it, and it worked when Kevin's dad pulled it from the Donor. that's about all that's known... paid $400.00 for it. it's pretty clean, no leakage, no seeping, whatever...

and it gave up in the oddest spot... my car likes to do that... it doesn't break anything major until I'm not doing anything that would normally stress it... I was in first gear, gently pulling away from a stop sign into a parking lot... got it moving, shifted to second, let the clutch out, engine revved freely, with a NASTY rattling sound coming from the back... parked the car and tried all 5 gears, nothing except a bad bad sound....then for grins, I tried shifting without the clutch... it worked... again, with a nasty sound... the clutch is 2 years old, and it's a spring centered, so I'm confident that it's not the clutch... that was doing nothing wrong... no squeeking, no nothing....

It was like that with Fishey at 944fest '03 in the 993. I was driving behind him and he just kind of casually pulled off to the side of the road. I pulled over too and asked what was up...I then heard it for myself.
