Wow talk about an old thread resurected. I had the head off, and took the oil cooler off, and realigned it, and put a new style valve in it, and I still have low oil pressure in that car.

Sooooo.. This is what im thinking happned with the car. I started having oil pressure problems after i replaced the timing belt and balance belt, which i took the crank gear off for. Before that my oil pressure was perfect. Now, its low. So, one would think that there was something wrong with the way I put the gears back on. Well, i took them back off, replaced the P/S pulley, made sure the washer was on correct, still nothing. Yet... putting a little extra torque on that crank bolt will show a slight increase in oil pressure. Sooooo...
Soon i will take off the pulleys and examine again. But... theres no way it was related to the relief valve. I figured that It may have just been conicendental (sp?) but i suppose its not.
Theres no way its rod bearings.. they just dont all of a sudden cause really low oil pressure, it would have been a more gradual effect.

But, in no way is the engine toast, or is the car a bad car. The car is in beatiful shape, its just been plagued with this damn oil pressure problem. Time to give her a little attention I guess. Fixing up the 951 (see just hit 200k mile thread) has been a little bit of a distraction.

I will post up for future reference if I do get the oil pressure back to normal.

Jeff, I skimmed the thread but did not see mention of the O-ring that fits between the oil pump drive gear and the flat washer. Is it there? If so is it hard and brittle or still pliable?

You might be on to something. I really dont recall any o-ring being in there last time i took it apart. Does anyone have a part number so I can order it, take it back apart, and throw it in. Even if i have it, it might not be a bad idea to replace it next time i take it apart.

Jeff, the part number I posted was for the '86. If it's for the '84 you need 900 174 049 40.

Brian, how do you post a screenshot of PET? I tried and it didn't work.
