Default Normal temps for oil, tranny, exhaust?

Hey everyone,
I was wondering, what's the normal operating temperature for the motor oil, the exhaust gas, and the 5-speed oil for a stock early NA? I wanted to install a temp sensor in the oil drain plug, the tranny drain plug, and the exhaust, and rig all 3 sensors to a sinlgle temp gauge, and use an electric switch to toggle through the 3. I needed to know what range of temps I'd need on the gauge I buy. Thanks!

Yeah, my dad bought the 84 944, then "upgraded" (psha) to the 928 and handed the 944 down to mum. After learning how to drive on our old mercedes diesel, I realized i really liked the 944 and just had to have one too.

Anyway, that used to be my sig when non-members were still allowed to have sigs.

Does anyone know about the typical or expected temperatures for those 3 locations? Thanks,

Arash

Arash, for the oil gauge, I'd go for a 300 F gauge. A 250 F might work but a 300 gives you more range. My 951 oil runs at 190 F on the highway and can go up to 220 in summer in stop and go driving. I've heard others say that it can go even higher on the track.

BTW, do a search and you'll see that I am making 944 drain plugs with a temp sender for rennlisters. I've got orders for 65 of them. I've shipped about 50 so far and will have a couple left over. PM me if you want one.

That sounds like a good idea.
I would like to have a switching unit as my dash is quite cluttered with touchscreen, separate GPS, thumb mouse etc ... and having a "small" switchable unit to monitor things would be nice. Plus I could integrate into the car PC software.

keep us up to date.

Don
EDIT: sorry, can't help you with the temps other than when I had the back seats removed, I once put a laser temp on the rear "hump" and it was like 104.

Brad, thanks for the oil info. I'll PM you for a drain plug, I definately want one.

Don, your info is helpful - looks like the tranny gets to at least 104 F, so it looks like I'll need a gauge with a higher range, maybe like 50-300 or something like that.

Anyone know a normal EGT?

EGT on a turbo car reaches 1600F with the stockk K26/6 at 15psi. This is just a guess, but I'll bet EGT is around 1000-1100F on an N/A.

Yeah I was thinking when I had a EGT gauge on my Starion 900-1200* was the norm at 7-12psi

Wow, that's pretty high. I guess using the same temp gauge for oil and exhaust gas will mean that the oil reading will be tiny and inaccurate. OK then, forget the EGT function. I'll just get a 300F gauge and switch between oil and trans. Or just use a nasty digital gauge... ew.

As far as EGT's are concerned, the manual indicates the normal tempereature should be 600C on the NA, that is 1,112F.
