Bridgestone portenza G111
Mine are bloody fantastic, wet or dry.
I have yet to get any tyre squeal or slippage no matter how hard I push them

I have a set of Michelin Pilot Sports on my Mercedes. They are good: grippy, responsive, and are reasonably comfortable. However, now that they have some miles on them, they are starting to get noisy.

Other than that though, they're good tires.

I actually have a set of Avon M500s on the 951 and they are not bad. Quieter than the Pilot Sports (now) and the ride is pretty good. The Porsche's handling is still good as always (as far as I can tell)

I am also in the same boat, not sure what tire to go with after this set. Would like a good 3-season tire really.
A good 3 season tire does not exist It cant be done. An ADEQUATE all season tire is simple but a GOOD all season tire is good at nothing. You just cant make the trade off.

Fuzion compared to the Ecsta Supra is not close, the Kumho is the biggest pile of crap tire ever built. They are OK for about 5K miles, after that they are rock solid and have ZERO grip wet or dry (personally, I think they are unsafe in the rain after 5K miles). The Kumho generally lasts less than 12K miles at that.

The Fuzion to the ES100 is a fair comparison. Both are very good entry level tires. I do not like the shoulder design of the ES100 but to each his own. I think the wet performance of the ZRi is a little better as well.

The G-force sport ranks high but I have not personally driven on them.

I would consider the following options were I to throw money at a new set of tires right now:

Moderately priced performance tires (<$100):
1. BFG g-Force Sport
2. Yokohama AVS ES100
3. Fuzion ZRi

Ultra high performance tires ($150+)
1. Bridgestone Potenza S-03 Pole Position
2. Michelin Pilot Sport
3. BFG T/A KD or KDW
4. Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3

Winter tire:
1. Nokian WR
2. Hakkapeliitta 2

YMMV

I just had to replace the rear ES100s (225/50-16) on my 968.....got a complete set after Hershey last year, but the rears went away/got noisey at the beginning of this summer.......lousy treadwear. The fronts are still in great shape, so I figured that replacing just the rears should even out the wear over the next year or so. Then, I'll have to figure out what I'm gonna replace the entire set with. Sure wish that Bridgestone still made the RE71s, or Firestone still made the Firehawk SZ50s.

Lee, try the Firehawk Wideoval or RE750 and if you liked the RE71Z maybe there is something on the horizon for you

Matt H, how is the treadwear on the ZRi? I have heard they are not great...but thats just that, I have only heard that. How about the BFG g-Force sport tires?

I haven't looked at either of those yet, but I WILL warn people against the RE730, which was the loudest tire I've ever had........right out of the wrapper. In fact, I still have the set mounted on my Club Sport forged rims (left over from my '88 Silver Rose Turbo S). One of these days, I'll put them on the car and drive over to South Bend for replacing (and so that I don't have to worry about disposing of them).
This was my first ever set of Yokos, so I'm not too happy with that company (even tho they sponsor the TSD Rallye at Parade every year). I'm not looking for any kind of "sticky" tire, as I don't do much AX/DE any more.....I'm mainly interested in rideability with some decent treadlife and a little grip, and doesn't require a bank loan to pay for (like a tank of gas will be soon) ........is that too much to ask from a tire manufacturer?

Default Fuzion

I have had the Fuzion's on my car 235\40\17, 255\40\17 for about 3k miles. The tread still looks great and I have had several weekends of hard driving. I have also driven daily quite a bit. The way I look at it is, if you like driving hard don't complain or be surprised that your tires wear out faster. I would recommend these tires. Good luck with your decision.

"Matt H, how is the treadwear on the ZRi?"

They wear well, and a 928 is by nature really rough on the rear tires. I think i have about 5k on mine, and they're at about 55%....but i drive very aggressively fairly often. I eat through a set of Eagles completely in that same mileage span, and the Ecstas were down to barely legal limits in that amount of mileage.

The fronts have been on there for 5k miles too, and they literally look brand new.

the yoko es100 are garbage, tread gone to dangerous bald patches in 5k.
i think i will try nittos 555,215/45zr/16,cost slightly more than yoko,
used nittos on other 83 and still have even tread.
if those dont work ,i will try the fuzions that steve in sac suggested.
thanks for the help.

I can't say this is directly applicable, but I have been running a set of Avon Tech M500s (from TireRack.com) on the Civic for the past 6 months and they have been FANTASTIC. I will be replacing the tires on the Porsche this coming spring with a set. And they should have standard sizes to fit.

The Avon's get great ratings at tire rack. I am thinking of getting those as well. Everyone says the same thing. Great ride not as noisy as most, turn-in is not as good as some but once they settle in the curve they handle great. This is on anything from a corvette to a boxster, a STi, 928 audi etc.

i had yoko es100s on my 914 and i loved them
i had kuhmo supras on the 924s and they handled great even though i was told they sucked
i loved my firestone sz50's wish they still made them
my pirelli p-zeros are great but alittle dryrotted, not sure if i want to go back w/ those
not a big fan of bridgestone or goodyear-kinda hard-thats why they last so long.
