Hatch Carpet Replacement - Cost/Effert Needed???
I have a buddy who has a '86 951 and his rear carpet (in the hatch) needs replacing. Where can you:
- Find this?
- How much does it cost?
- Is this something him and I could do? (neither of us good at stuff like this)
Thanks
Cory

mid america motorworks catalog has a whole carpet set for 279. but it includes everything. i'de imagine you could get just the rear piece for half that easily. you could try ebay, or ask tod84944 (rennlist member here), i recieved some stuff from him, seems like he is always parting out cars.
If it is just the carpet that lays over everything, its actually only held in by snaps, if you need the carpet going along the sides too (covering up the sunroof motor part) those are held in by upholstry clips that just press in. i broke most of mine taking them off though... im not sure where the side sections end. but its definatly something you could do yourself

Thanks, I don't need the side pieces just the bottom or floor portion. Good info Andy! Times like this I hate having my car at my brothers as I have to ask questions that could easily be answer'd by looking, but that's kind of hard when the car is 1 hr away :-(
Anybody selling this in black? Anybody parting cars? Needs to be pretty much new looking!
Thanks,
Cory

How bad is the one in the car? If you're looking for perfect, I can't help you. I do have an old one from a parts car that needs to be cleaned up. You're welcome to it next time I head to MI.

While my carpet in back is a little rough, the pressboard pieces covering the side cubbies and spare tire were in really bad shape, sagging badly and deformed. I drilled out the little rivets holding them onto the carpet, then used the old pieces as patterns to cut some 3/8" plywood. An hour and about 50 rivets later, things were much improved.
This and a can of carpet dye might go a long way toward making the old carpet look good...

I have tan(92' S2), Linen(86' 951), and black(85.5 944) rear carpet inserts, with the folding side compartment flaps. Only the S2 piece accomodates the factory smaller, compact spare(thin tire, red rim). $30/ea. Buyer pays ship. PM if wanting....

Here are two other sources for new carpet:
http://www.vcnet.com/worlduph/default.html
http://www.stockinteriors.com/Default.asp
Both offer carpet for 944s. I don't know anything about them other than what's on their websites.
I would love to hear any feedback from anyone who has actually bought and installed new carpet - mine is shot and I'll have to do it one of these days.
