Not a happy camper: oil smoke - now with comp #'s
#46
The 951 absolutely NEEDS TO HAVE VACUUM IN THE CRANKCASE!!!!
If not the turbo's ability to properly drain will become inhibited and the oil will build up against the exhaust seals and slip past into the exhaust and produce smoke.
Experience talking - not marketing bull****.

I trust you have experience with this Campeck
and if you thought it was the cause of the smoing. wouldnt you have just listed it along with valve seals. and yet you didnt. so you obviously agree.

michelle. isnt this the unit that vents to atmo?. has a filter on top?
if so that unit absolutely creats no vacuum in the crancase. it just makes it neutral isf not slightly pressurized.
ive found that this can is prettyf rikin awesome. keeps vacuum. traps oil. and is WAY smaller. ANNND looks really good.

Just checked the catch can and the drain on the bottom is missing. I replaced it, but the damage may already have been done. What may it have done to the turbo and how do I fix it?

Race Car
Since it was mentioned earlier, my problem has to do with what I believe to be the #4 intake valve seal, although it could be a ring. Mine smoked on one cylinder only, and fouls it in ~100 miles to the point where it won't fire anymore, unless I drive it hard, which works very well to clean it up
Stupid question, but why is 20psi so dangerous?....
Mine peaks at 22-23psi around 3800RPM. It runs very rich at full boost, which perhaps is what's keeping me safe, but I hit it all the time on both the street and at the track. (don't worry, I obey traffic laws on the street )
All I have is a WFHG, and I didn't have even the slightest worry until now.

I don't really believe 20 psi should be a big problem. I'd hate to have sunk the money I did into mods/upgrades and not be able to pull 20 psi one time for 2 seconds! It's just the only thing I did that was out of the ordinary. I'm now starting to believe it may be the turbo. ANyone got one for sale? (Not stock - I've still got my stock one).

your right special tool. nothing is wrong with her car. nothing at all happened when she hit 20psi. and i said that it was her catch can that causes the damage......yup.
but seriously. just trying to help. i back up what you say. need vacuum in oil pan. therefore need catch can that doesn't vent to atmo.

Moroso #68781 on top of my Lindsey can routed back to the MAF J-Pipe in front of the turbo keeps vacuum on crankcase and turbo drain.
Use the Moroso or not, but run the can back into the system.

I'd have to say turbo, but the restrictor may fix it. It could just be blowing oil past the seals. The lesser smoke up on revs thing makes me think it's the cold side seal. When the boost comes up, it counter acts the oil pressure holding it in.

i fyou cover it with your hand it should have built a little pressure. although ive never done it so im not sure if the pressure is enough to feel? does the lindsey can have any material inside of it? i know the AMW can has a mesh tangle where the vapors come in. and lots of ridges in the side so the oil cant make its way back up. if the lidsey can is empty the oil vapors could just go right into the can and out the top again. hence why the filter was there. does anyone know?
