Default tie rodinstallation

I'm putting in a manual rack and was wondering if there is a proceedure for installing the tie rods other than just tightening things up against the stop rings. tie in should come off the tie rod ends correct?

Nothing magical. Needs some large wrenches. I'll put a big vice-grips on the inner tie rod "ball." Don't tighten without counterholding the rack.

On the early power-assisted rack you have to "stake" the inner tie rods with a pin punch. Not sure if it's the same on other kinds of racks.
