For a car that old it is nearly impossible to answer that question. Seriously. Also, it is very car specific.

Don't hate me guys, but a 2.5l n/a 944 is not worth the effort/time/money to keep in excellent condition. You simply do not get enough in return.

A 944 was my first car. I've had 2, on which I've put a good 45k miles on. It only costs big money if you don't do the work all on your own. But thats much easier said than done.

I got to the point with my recent n/a where I was wrenching every single day, hours on end, for two weeks straight. I don't really have a garage so this was in 100+ degree weather out in the sun. Don't start with the "there is no such thing as a cheap porsche bullsh*t" because that is not the case at all. These cars just like to have a mind of their own every once in a while. My first 500 dollar porsche NEVER let me down in the 35k that I drove it - always started and always got me to my destination.

If you really want a 944, buy an s2. If you dont mind even more reliability issues, buy a 951. These are very fun cars but they do need plenty of attention and money.

I was talking to the owner of a local porsche shop (IPB motorsports) yesterday and we came accross the topic of 944s. He said, "People often call me and ask about buying a 944, to which I always respond 'Whyyyy??"

Take it easy guys and don't hate the truth - we simply own these cars because we're enthusiasts - not because theyre particularly good cars. Hell, even Russian LADA owners have a fan club.

I just talked with Jon Milledge this week. He got 190 bhp out of a nearly stock 8v. Stock head, stock cam, only port matching. He'll guarantee you 185. For a price of course. But it can be done.

compared to what? anything else on the road? too much...

Ok. think of it like this... like I said before, over $12,000.00 including purchase, 4 years... I have'nt calculated the total in a couple years, so it's more like $14,000.00

that's 3,500 a year.that's a lot... and that is NOT including the $75.00 oil changes... which I do religiously, 4 or 5 times a year (I really drive a hell of a lot)

I know... you should've heard us all cheering when my car was on the Dyno... pulled up 123.6, and I'm like "WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! 924S POWER!!!"

TD, you gotta get to 944fest next year... most fun you'll ever have.

A 240SX is a great car (I have a Nissan performance background). But, the prices are getting stupid. It's a hot ticket for a SR20DET (factory turbo engine) swap.

Want a good reliable car with 944 performance, buy a 91-94 Sentra SE-R. They are getting hard to find in great shape now, but they are a pretty hot car (C&D 10 Best all 4 years).

I am sure I would thoroughly enjoy myself. I am a very serious person. Sounds like most owners of 924s and 944s are.

I made do with my parents cars till I was done college and had a good job. Then I bought a 951.

Most people here who have been there done this will tell you the same thing, education takes priority over an expensive car. Wait till you have a good job, then buy away knowing you can afford it more readily and wont be jepordizing anything.

Inexpensive, powerful (relatively speaking), smooth, reliable, fun to drive, and parts a dime a dozen.

He said he doesn't like Bimmers, my guess is he hasn't driven one.
