Should I be able to buy my own 944 car at 16?

TD, I understand very much where you are coming from but there seems to be a little misunderstanding here. Im looking at the 944 because it looks like a good car. The fact that its a porsche is astonishing me. I dont think Ill ever buy a new car in my whole life, or any car for more that ~$15,000 for that matter. I would like to enjoy driving even if it takes more than 15 seconds to go a quarter mile. Ive driven toyotas and hondas and its just plain painful, esp automatics.

I don't know that this is true.. in the light of things, I seem to feel that it does have a little more pep then a lot of what my friends drive.. The cars that people i know have that DO accelerate faster, its not much, and they don't handle any where near. I don't know, I guess i don't live in a real wealthy area like in CA or anything, but its all in the eyes of the beholder... if you look at 0-60 times, 7.5-8sec really isnt all that bad.

Its not that these cars aren't particularly unreliable, its just the average model is near 20 years old, after a while they have been neglected and abused. You can easily buy a 944 for 2k, but you can also EASILY spend 2x that on necessary and unexpected repairs. I'd suggest you drive one and decide if you like the way it drives, the way the clutch feels, the way the shift linkage feels, if the shudder everytime you let the engine come back to idle feels like a car you want to pour most of your money into and **** off your parents in the process is worth it. I also suggest you drive an E36 325, they are great, more power than you need. Good luck.

Ok cwatson. Here's a challenge, if you're up to it for the 944 experience for one year before you buy...
If you pay the bills for any and all needs for my 924S for one year, and still want a 944, you pass... I bought mine not expecting it's such a high-maintinance car. at least 2 weekends a month, I'm doing something to improve it's general condition, or fixing something that broke... today's fix, a pair of hood shocks...
