Would it be unsafe to take it trough an automated carwash? I know I'm risking the paint job if I do that. But I have a couple of spots that I'm going to get repainted anyway.

Solution to get the cosmoline and grease off:
Product called Simple Green, available at home Depot and various places, Easy Off for the really stuck-on stuff works well. If your worried about removing Cosmoline protection, coat exposed dry areas with Amzoil MP, available online.
