I'd pull off your belt covers first and see if there is anything rolling around in there., then pull the distributor cap and make sure the rotor isnt loose.

I haven't listened to the clip, but I'd stop revving it up if I were you.

If you have no idea what it is, please take it to a Porsche mechanic.

i would love to take it to a shop asap but i work all week long when i could take it, so i was just seeing if you all had any suggestions.
As for the reving, i dont rev it hard, just like 2 or 3 thousand so you can hear the noise. I dont drive the car hard, but it is my daily driver. I know with 160k miles it is gonna have problems but crunchy rattling noises shouldnt be hehe.

The cap and rotor are both brand new, but i just went out and checked it and they are good and tight. The belt cover i will have to look into when it quits raining.

Right, start with under the belt cover and do a compression test, but it's not a good idea to start it if it sounds like you describe.

What model? If it's an S, definitely don't start it!

Pull your valve cover to have a look.

no its an 84 n/a. The sound really sounds like it is coming from the front of the car. I have recently (maybe a month) had my timing belts and rods replaced, along with the water pump/radiator. Maybe my mech didnt tighten something up perhaps...

definately sounds like something in the belt cover... I've had bolts come out... and lodge themselves in there...it's not pleasant... good luck man. check under the belt cover like the others have suggested.

It seems to idle and rev OK, isn't rev dependent, but that rattle noise is so bad...I say the same as others, someone didn't tighten a roller or something and a bolt is loose somewhere in your covers. If the rotor was loose it would probably run real bad. Do not drive that car until you have an answer.

do so at your own risk, I wouldn't run it let alone drive it.

Sounds like it could be the alternator going bad to me. Pull the A/C belt off and see of it still makes the noise. It will run for a bit on just the battery. Simple quick test to rule it out. Good Luck!
