Default Your dumb Previous Owner...

What sorta things did your Previous Owner screw up? with the 924S, the PO never changed the timing belt, so it almost went, and when I took it in, the tech said I had less than 100 miles or so left before it woulda snapped....

and the PO before him, His kids hated him, so they took it out on the Porsche, shot it up with BB guns, etc.

And then one of the 3 PO's aparently took it through some rather large dirt fields, as the original exhaust had about 1/4 inch of sandstone on it....]

Oh yes, and none of them EVER once beleived in car wax... I FINALLY got the car looking near perfect on the hood, after 4 years of ownership...

My previous owner was thoughtful enough to give the car a thorough cleaning right before I came to pick it up. That is something that I have passed on to people who have bought other cars from me since.

The only DPO stuff on my car that really irks me is that at some earlier (pre-Pete) point in the car's life, it had been sanded to the bare metal in a couple of places for paint work. THAT IS THE STUPIDEST, MOST JACKASS THING YOU CAN DO TO A 944.

FOR ALL OF YOU PAINTING OR DOING BODY WORK ON YOUR CAR, DO NOT SAND IT TO THE BARE METAL!! YOU ARE STRIPPING IT OF ITS GREATEST ASSET. SAND IT TO THE PRIMER IF YOU FEEL YOU MUST RID IT OF ALL THE OLD PAINT.

Mine...

... broke the timing belt twice. 1st time a roller froze, the second time when repairing the 1st time and he had the belt tight on one side, loose on the other.
... let the car sit for 2 or 2 1/2 years after the above happened. Red wasps moved into the engine compartment and I think a lizard might've lived somewhere.
... took care of "extra wires" left over when putting the console back together by removing them alltogether. To this day I still haven't found where he cut the rear wiper switch at, it's just gone but everything else has been replaced
... cut out the factory radio harness (see above)
... ran the car with bigger tires in the rear than in front
... lost any and all paperwork associated with the car except for an old insurance card
... broke the rear hatch and replaced it with one off a 944. Nice upgrade.
... somehow removed the "S" off the 924S sticker

Um, fixed everything with duct tape (including the alternator belt adjusting rod, and removed the timing belt idle roller when he did a belt job, which resulted in you know what.

my previous owner sprayed the engine bay, wheels, and brakes with silver paint. He did not even use high temperature stuff, so that left me to refinish my wheels, and pull off the cam tower and intake manifold to repaint it due to the P.O. stupidness.

Let's see. . . Let the car sit too long causing failure of the a/c compressor clutch pulley and snapping the alternator belt (car didn't even make it home after I picked it up), ****ed up the stereo wiring to install 6x9s in the rear hatch area, never washed it from the look of it, etc. The car is about 1000x better now than when I got it - and getting better daily.

Not sure which previous owner thought he was a stereo install specialist, but all the wiring just laid on top of the carpet, all wires were just twisted together then wrapped in electrical tape, the cd changer in the rear is held in place with towels (no joke!) and the sub tube wasn't tied in place, and got power from a 3 hole cig lighter adapter which was wired underneath the dash!

Luckily it hasn't taken very much work to rectify this, although I still dread pulling the radio....

he duct taped the extended serrated arms of the sunroof

installed an antenna onto the driver side fender for his motorola car phone

used the space under the seats as "storage" for kitchen utensils apparently because i found about 3 forks and 2 knives.

used black electrical tape to keep the shift boot attached to the shift lever

didn't care that the rear had a 7" and 8" phonedial while the front had the same.

hmm i'll think of more later.

OK, well, I bet I may have everyone beat.. But this is about all the previous owners as I don't know who did what.

-- PUT EARLY ENGINE IN LATE 944
-- With that engine, they put a VW air mass sensor, which it took me 8 months to figure otu that was the throttle position problem...
-- NO AIR FILTER !!! And stupid ME, i didn't check the air filter until after a couple weeks of driving....
-- Smoked in the car
-- hack job stereo
-- All power mirror wires are cut,
-- Ghetto shift boot was on when I got it
-- Front doors, ignition, and rear hatch all have different keys.
-- I have to open the hood with pliers to pull the broken cable..
-- Tried to glue the console lid on..
-- "lost speedometer sender" in the tranny, "on the way bringing it to me"
-- REAR ENDED THE CAR ON THE WAY TO BRING IT TO ME!!! His wife rear ended it coming off an exit ramp while following him to my house,,, "supposedly"
-- All it did was pop in the rear bumper on one side, popped it out before i bought it and it was fine.
-- Someone DRILLED through the rear bumperettes and bumper corners and put some farmish looking bolts and screws , etc through to hold it all on...
-- painted rubberettes
-- Put 3 different types of tires on the car (only 2 match)
-- Velcro'd the gas flap on that broke off...

Trying to think of more...

-- Early hood on late car, so it rubs on windshield wipers..
-- Duct taped radiator hose..
-- Mixed and matched early and late engine parts (late ac compressor only held on with one mount because it is not the correct bracket on early car, half my pulleys are late, half are early, who knows when or what was done as far as timing belt)
-- Seat covers put over completely CHEWED OUT seats as in, i can feel bars on my ***...
-- got in an accident that i ddint know about due to passenger door being white on the inside
-- Crappy paint job that has red speckle overspray or else its some kind of red speckle ricer metallic crap...
-- Some kind of haunted house of mirrors mirror put in my passenger side mirror with glue.... makes things look pretty warped..
-- Beat on the transmission at redlights I think, blew transmission 8 months after buying and I didn't drive it like that..
-- Front sway bar was tied on with twine on one side...
-- Brake calipers and rotor hubs painted yellow, which is mostly fallen off..
-- Whoever put in the engine, put hose clamps on the lines above teh cam cover on the fuel lines, so they ended up dripping on my engine, i'm lucky I caught that and that i didn't explode that day...

BTW, i bought this car on ebay. I checked the sellers auctions a few months later, and she was suspended from selling her used "juicy" underwear...

That's all I can think of right now.. I bet more will come to mind..

Yes, I got hosed....

Yes I do, at least pretend to, and make me feel better by laughing at me.. I would really appreciate laughter, as I am trying to stay light hearted about it...
