i'd think this would be a great improvement to the car's ability by losing even more weight - a pdf version will work (i'm assuming it has all the pics in it as the word doc has)...thanks

Hmm, ok, so maybe "other skills" was a bit . . . too "broad" of a statement.

Mark,

The first try bounced. Let me know if the second try doesn't go through. We can meet up again - I'll bring a hardcopy.

How do you finish the edges so you don't see the fiber? Fiber showing through on the side is not really a huge deal, but if you sand the edges to round them over, I would think that the fiber would show through from the top.

The outer layer of resin is thick enough (if applied properly) to prevent this. You don't want to sand or round this outer edge. It is best to keep it fairly sharp (90 degrees). A very small chamfer is acceptable. As for the underside, that is a different matter. No problem if you want to radius the edge. The underside is not the appearance surface so most anything goes. Additional resin can be applied to give a smoother surface - but only on the underside.

The technique of cutting the outer edge during the "magic" period will really help give a nice clean edge appearance. Make sure the overlap portion of the glass gets soaked with resin, or this will never work.

If for some reason, the outer layer of resin is not thick enough and the fiberglass texture shows through - you should use body filler or spot putty to build up that surface. Sand it smooth and apply a good coat of primer.

I didn't go into any detail on Gel-coat. That is the stuff the professionals use to create the outer layer of fiberglass parts. It is the perferred way to go if you have the equipment, time and money. My method is just simple and inexpensive.
