Default Clutch is sticky and engauges high

When I picked up the 85 N/A I noticed the brakes were very mushy (doesnt stop well either) and the clutch was sticky and engauges very high -- I hardly have to touch the clutch to shift. Is that a problem? My moms 86 N/A engauges high, but not this high.

Can I solve my problems by bleeding the system? If so...is the nipple on the master cylinder 3/8th by any chance?

Thanks
Mike

Sounds like a full flush and bleed is in order to start with. Mushy brakes may go away, unless they are that way because the calipers are sticky (old fluid ruins rubber and corrodes/rusts pistons) or because the brake MC is the problem. The clutch can engage high for a number of reasons. First, do the flush/bleed. Considering most of the bolts on your European car are metric, I doubt the 3/8 will see much action. Get yourself a set of small metrics for this job 6,7,8,10mm at a minimum. The bleed location on the clutch system is not on the brake or clutch MC, it is on the clutch slave cylinder. It is located just above the starter - access is from bottom of car - have a tubed catch bottle for this.

If you don't have any friends to pump the pedals for you, get a Power Bleeder. You know where

Alright I'll do that. I do have the nessecary tools and was just wondering if it was 3/8s as my Conquest is a Japanese car and it'd had a 3/8th nipple on the master cylinder. What I did (and works like a charm) is get a 3 foot length of flexible plastic tubing in 3/8th ID...fill it up with about 10 inches of brake fluid...and suck the air out...

I just may have to pick up a Power Bleeder..and maybe a clutch My car jerks when I let off the gas in gear...whats that sound like??

Thanks!
Mike

I assume you know exactly what it sounds like. To be sure, lift car (rear at least), clutch engaged, in neutral, remove trapezoidal rubber plug from transaxle bell housing, reach in and try to turn drive shaft. If it turns more than just a wee bit, you have rubber hub failure.

Have also heard folks describe that lurching but it turns out the TPS (throttle position switch) is not adjusted correctly. Let me know if you need more info on that, too.

Alright , thanks!

I really hope its the TPS instead of the clutch!! I'll add that to my to-do list and check it tommorow.

Thanks Skip!
