Cool Removing side mouldings

I have been wondering if the side moulding are just glue or are screwed in. I know the part that attaches to the back side of the door has one screw but is that it? If I removed them, could I get all the glue and gunk off it with the paint still matching? Has anyone done this?

I know the front section is glued on, and I think the door part is. I doubt the paint would match, even if it all cleaned off.

Maybe im weird, but I think the car looks better with the mouldings on...

it's glued on. grab and pull to remove. As Brian said, the paint would prolly be a different color, but with a good detail that could be fixed up.

my brother is looking for a full set of mouldings for his NA.

PM me when you have them off if you want to sell them.

The moulding is made up of 3 pieces per side. The two smaller pieces (on the fender and rear quarter) are glued on. The longer piece on the door is glued with a rivot on the inside part of the door in the jam area. The rivot will need to be drilled out before you go to "grab and pull", lest you run the risk of flaring the metal in the door around the rivet hole.

I believe the rivet is plastic. Push on the center circle of the rivet and the rod will push through, then with a trim remover go under the rivet and pop it out.

At least on my 85.5, the rivet is metal. I have seen metal on the earlier cars as well, later cars could have plastic ones (of course, it is entirely plausible that they could have been replaced/buggered-with sometime over the lifespan of the car).

Just make sure when you are removing the door trim piece, to take your time and walk down with it, you really don't want to put any major bends in it.

I have seen plastic rivets, metal rivets, and screws...I am a fan of putting a screw back.

Well, there ya go, that's why you shouldn't ask a 924S owner's opinion on a door part...

sh*tty...sorry if I provided false advice that you used... I apologize. I've seen so many cars who have removed the bump gaurd, and there was nothing to indicate...

But he did tell him to change his blinker fluid on a regular basis.

I would say anything along the lines of Goo Gone or that Gunk stuff. Should work ok. Maybe a plastic paint scraper would help expedite the process.
