Default AC charge, 89 S2 which fitting is low pressure?

My parents neighbor (80yr old former mechanic), has a couple spare 14oz bottle of R-12, and the small hose w/ the valve on one end. He says it's no big deal to add some freon, he still does it for his grandkids cars, and that ideally you'd use some pressure guages but it's not necessary.
I had been told that the fitting down by the compressor is 'low pressure', and the one up by the brake fluid resevoir is 'high pressure' (obviously add r-12 at the low pressure). But neighbor mechanic was looking at my car and wasn't so sure, -and I don't want to do it wrong! Anybody know for sure on an '89 S2?

-thanks!

Unfortunately it's the one on the compressor. Doesn't make a whole lot of sense considering the one by the strut tower is much easier to get to...oh well!

That fitting is hard to get to. There is a trick to make access easier by using a shorter belt. It was discussed in an thread last year IIRC. An "L" shaped adapter also helps.

I can get the fitting right on there, it points straight down and the fitting my old friend has just screws on straight. Maybe using the correct hoses makes it more difficult. Ok, so the low pressure side is just aft of the compressor and the high pressure side is up near the strut top. -thanks!

Do you know where to get one of these L Shaped Adapters?

Thanks!
Erich

Don't know about the adaptors, but my '87 924S had a low side fitting near the firewall on the passenger side that was much easier to get at than the fitting on the compressor.
