Lets talk 944 ICE
So,
Has anyone done or have pics of a TFT / LCD (6.5 - 7") screen mounted in a 944? I know the single DIN flip up is an option, just looking for all ideas... I need to ICE up for the shows...

Hmm...since I do this type of stuff everyday by profession, I've been toying with the idea of mounting a 7-8'' monitor in the double din opening and then extending the audio wiring to the glovebox for the deck relocation(using a spare rear a/c housing from a Tahoe/Suburban thats lying around the shop somewhere)...i cant bring myself to be the norm with the in-dash slide out type, yet want a bigger screen than the double din 'all-in-one's' offer(Kenwood, Eclipse..and heck..Pioneer just released one)...not to mention the angle the deck would sit at wouldn't allow it to go but halfway into tha cavity.
if you go the same route, i highy suggest either going w/ an Alpine touchscreen compatible setup..or at least get a source unit with a remote control and throw an ir repeater on it..so you don't have to constantly open the glovebox for volume and track/station change.

Anyway, there was someone, I can't recall who, who was doing this and had the LCD all setup, even as far as what program would be on the screen and a background and everything. Do a search on this board, you can probably find it fairly easily, there's been multiple threads. I think pricing was somewhere from 1-2k.

It might seem icy but I have been thinking about putting the Blaupunkt Chicago Pilot unit in for navigation. I don't see the problem with a flip up screen or any screen for that matter. It's no different than stuffing a huge woofer in the rear deck with 1000 watts of amplifier? I say go for it!

I think he did complete it. I remember seeing some good looking pics of it a while back ( a long time ago actually). I was thinking of doing this myself to the '88. I never picked out an LCD though (I wanted a touch screen, couldn't find one I wanted). I was going to put mine in the 2 DIN slot and relocate the head unit to the glove box, just like luxuriousloud suggested. Never got it done once the Turbo got into the garage. The boost got to me.

Yeah, as far as I know (from his posts) he completed it last year. The pics looked awesome IMHO. Not my style but still very stock looking and blended with the dash well.

I almost dropped like $2500 on a double din navigation and dvd and xm and play with your ***** when you drive system. It didn't flip out, the screen was the entire front, and everything was done touch-screen.
