Talking Saved one from the chopping block......

Figured I'd post some progress pics from my latest adventure. A fellow 'lister had a low-speed encounter with the back of a truck and was inquiring about parting the car out. I thought it was too nice to part out, so we worked out a deal to get him some wheels and I took the car home.

I am still waiting for some parts to be delivered (grrrr Greyhound!), but the project is coming along nicely and I am not too far from being done. MAJOR thanks goes out to my dad, he did all of the straitening of metal, some parts I was sure I would have had to fabricate! Alot of the brackets and structure begind the nosepanel were fairly damaged, but he made them new again!

We fabricated a location jig off of my 944S that is mostly dissasembled which is making the re-attachment of the hood latch arch easier and much more precise. Anyway, thought I'd throw this up on the list, should have this thing done in a couple weeks - I cannot wait!

Great ideas building that jig. It looks amazing, good job! It's wonderful to see another one saved from the chopping block, and the repair looks 100x better than what was done on my 86 NA.

That is the jig we fabricated to locate all that stucture before we weld it back to the frame of the car. Once that stuff is re-attached, the jig will be un-bolted from the car.

Very smart! I am up here in Arlington if you need and parts shipping would probably not be all that much. I dont have any fenders right now, But I do have a hood or two or three.... Light covers as well but no header panels

Awesome! My car was going to be parted too, but from a broken timing belt / bent valves. Body work is one thing I don't know much about, wish I had that kind of talent!

I see Clecos;

You've done this stuff before! Neat idea with the jig.

Don't part 'em, rebuild 'em!

Yes, both my dad and I are from an aviation maint. background. He has forgotten more about working on airplanes than most people will ever know.......

Anyway, we finished welding and removed the jig - nothing shifted so I guess we got it right! I will dress the welds and do some clean up and then I will post more pictures of the completed structure. Thank yall very much for the kind words, this car should be up and going real soon now - stay tuned boys and girls!
