Default Idle Issue

Hello everyone!

This is my first post on rennlist. I have had my 88 924S for about 6 months now, and the idle has been acting up lately. In order to get my car to idle, you must loosen the idle screw about 10 turns (from what i understand you shouldnt have to move it more than 1) . My problem is that with the idle screw loosened this much, the compensation for when i turn on the A/C does not seem to function. If i close the screw all the way the car will idle around 800 rpm, and will hold that 800 rpm idle with the A/C engaged. I have checked all of my vacuum lines, and they seem to be fine. Also my idle stabalizer valve funtions, as i have jumped the connectors on the diagnostic port and noticed it functioned.

Thanks in advanced for your help.

~Mark~

Welcome!

Idle issues are a pain in the butt on these cars. I'm currently going through something similar - check the following:

- vaccum lines
- spark plugs
- cap & rotor / wires
- TPS
- AFM
- injectors
- ISV

Probably a few other things too that could throw it off. . .

While this isn't part of your idle problem what is the history on the timing belt? If you don't know or if it's been 30,000 miles or two years you should replace it.

As to the idle; idle control valve under the intake manifold and/or the vacuum lines going to it.

When was the last time you changed your timing and balance belts
and/or cam chain and tensioner?

I found that my rotor was scorched to slag when I pulled the dist. cap. If it ain't the cause of my problems it ain't good. Same with the cap & plugs. Wires look fine.

Perhaps my ISV is gunked up ? My vacuum lines are all in tact
