Okay, i am replacing the alternator.......... everything came off fine. The top bolt for the alternator came off w/o problems........

I just spent the last 2 hours trying to remove/loosen the bottom alternator bolt...........no go!

Sprayed WD-40 a few times, w/o any success..........

I sprayed more stuff and i am leaving it over nite...........and advice???

PB blaster and a light tap with a blunt instrument (ie. hammer) usually get stuck bolts off for me. Very light taps thought!

Easier to get leverage on by swinging the a/c compressor out of the way from underneath maybe?

WD-40 is a lubricant, not a rust penetrator so it won't do squat. Get some PB blaster on it, apply some heat, and get as long a breaker bar up there as you can.

I will third... PB Blaster and break out the propane torch!

I had a similiar issue when I tried to remove the bolt going through the alternator into the block of my vw golf. I stripped out the allen head, roughed up that bolt like no other with pliers, tried the chisel and hammer method...nothing would work! I must have spent a good 4hrs trying to get out that one f*cking bolt!

I bitched to some of the fellows at work the next day, and they sent me home with a can of pb blaster, a huge pair of vice-grips and a torch. I sprayed a ton of PB Blaster all around the bolt as soon as I got home. Later on that night I found an old pipe somewhere to use as an extension on the vice-grips. Then I applied heat to the bolt and the area surrounding it. Last, I clamped those vice-grips down like there was no tommorow, then firmly applied pressure and with a *CRACK* that bolt started turning and came right out.

Sadly enough I still view removing that bolt without breaking it or resorting to suicide as a great achievement!

I agree. WD-40 is useless as a rust penetrator in this kind of application. PB Blaster is MUCH better.

"2 hours" ? My! what HAVE you tried.

Also tried accessing the bolt from both under and over the car , now.........one giuy working on a car w/o a garage.........that is also setting me back

Long breaker-bar. I've used an 18" 1/2"-drive bar with an additional 2-foot pipe-extension. Snapped the head of the bolt clean off and alternator came out without any problems after that.

i just remembered, i have a butane (sp?) pencil torch........nice and small and could fit in such tight spots.

Dan, that breaker bar you used, did you access the bolt from under the car or from the top? (i can access both).

umm i know you used wd 40 but in my opinion that is not good for rusted or stuck bolts.. try looking for some "kroil" that stuff werk wonders im sure you could pick it up at liiek a hardware store or ask around i know that stuff have saved me many bolts

agree, kroil or pb blaster will work magic, as does as 25" breaker bar.
