Default Are the 944 Turbo/968 brake pads the same front/rear?

Paragon shows the same pad for the front and rear for 968 non-M030 calipers.

Is this true?

So why do the pads I bought for the fronts don't work in the rear? They don't fit. Hmm....

You must have M030's or Turbo S calipers.

If they don't QUITE fit (just a smidge too tight), then the calipers are gunked up a bit. More precisely, the little spring clips at the ends of the pad opennings have a tendency to corrode and make for a very tight fit. The answer is try cleaning them out a bit. Ultimate answer is usually to remove the calipers, change out the spring clips (Porsche sells as a kit).

It can be a big hassle. The screws holding them in need heat, tend to break, sometimes need to be drilled out.

I would try a small wire brush and some brake cleaner first. Be gentle, the calipers themselves are aluminum.

Hope this helps.

Dave that sounds like the problem. It's very close to fitting but just barely doesn't.

I will try to clean them out.

Thanks,
Matt

I just did my front bakes on a m030 suspensioned car. The tolerance is nil when slidding the pads in and required grinding some of the plate around the pad. This worked fine. As for replacing the spring plates, the screws look like a real PITA to get at.

The pads happen to be the same one the Ferrari F40 uses...

Thanks everyone for your help... Dave especially you had the solution.

It was indeed because behind those plates was a ton of dirt. I was able to remove the plates and clean behind them really well, scraping the crap out. Those allen screws are a pain to get to but I was able to get to them relatively easily using a 3/4" socket with a hex drill tip and a socket wrench. Make sure you clean those bolts out very well before you do anything though because they will strip easily.

One side down, will finish the other side tomorrow.

(Note: I'm replacing my stock 89 944 na brakes with 968/951 brakes/rotors on all four corners)

-Matt

PS
That's interesting Danno thanks!
