I just built a garage and I used colored ( charcoal color ) concrete. It's got a really smooth surface as we "burned" it in really smooth as it was curing. I'll never have to do anything other than clean it now other than maybe possibly putting a sealant on it to make it really shine. My second choice would have been to "acid stain" it because the color is imbedded in the concrete also.
Stains, sealers, urethanes and paints simply will not hold up like colored concrete which has the color imbedded right in it.

For those interested in acid stains the Kemiko line http://www.kemiko.com/ is a good product. It costs about a 3rd more than the previously referenced Deco-Sup brand but since it is undiluted you get twice the coverage per gallon. Acid stains will require sealers. Stay away from the water based sealers as they often powder. A good oil based sealer is the Clemmons Concrete Coatings Super Seal 30 (sorry no link).

I'm sitting in my garage remodeling it as we speak. I went with the BLT rubber floor mat. Easiest to install, looks great, easy to clean, spills don't run, etc. Cost me about $380 shipped for my 500 sq ft garage.

Of course, you could just spend the money on fixing your oil leaks instead...

What does the mat look like? (code for "pics please") I am remodeling and trying to decide on flooring. I don't like the 7 days of no touch with the Rustolium product, Not sure how a 4 post would sit on tiles, so a mat might be a good alternative.

I put a big 22'x11' rubber/vinyl mat on the other side of the garage. About $200 I think from Sams Club. Very heavy duty. Takes a while to flatten out. Likes to trap dirt in between the ridges. Looks a lot better than concrete though.

i will also rec. the rustoleum, I have put in on 2 newish concrete floors with no probs, they wer 2 months old. And I did the acid etch too. The time isn't that bad either. I would get a broom/squeeqie though to help with drying. my dad and i did a 2-car in about 5 hours if you don't count drying, and that was with cutting in all the corners.

I did a 32x35 ft 4 bay shop by myself in a day, a long day, but it's possible. Once the prep and corners are done, the rolling flies by.
