Default Engine ID

Ok, stupid question, but where is the Engine code (id) located?? Is it stamped on the block anywhere??

Depends on the year, early/pre 85.5's had it on the driver side near the flywheel behind the oil dip stick, later models it was on the passenger side above the exhaust headers.

In either location it is likely dirty and going to be hard to read.

Im glad you posted this thread I need to order a part and the shop needs the engine ID. I know its near the reference sensor, the problem is I dont know where that is. haha

Actually behind the oil fill tube, sorry about that. So are the speed and ref sensors, top of flywheel.

Dammit , I cant find it, how far is it down the firewall? My eyes arent the best so if its deep down there im screwed. I really need to finalize my order, can someone please point me where to go? thanks Is there any other way to get the ID?

It is pretty far down there, you may even need to move some wires to one side or the other to see it. It is just an inch or two from the timing inspection hole IIRC.

If you have an 86 or newer it is on the other side above the headers as you didn't post your year. If you have a Haynes manual they have good pics of poth.

Im an 85.5 with the late dash, no third brake light etc. Is it on the firewall or engine? Thanks for your help
