Default Clutch Problem - 944/968 conversion

As some of you may know, Ive been working on this S3 conversion for a little while. The engine runs just fine, however Im having major clutch problems.

When I first started the car (on jackstands), everything ran just fine. Power was transferred to the wheels in all six gears. Than when I attempted to drive the car out of my garage, there was a large amount of chatter and grinding coming from the clutch area.

So, I dismantled the car again, and got to the clutch. It looks like something is mis-aligned, but I dont know what. Do any of you guys have any ideas?

Thanks,

Jared

That looks to me, like you have used a 240mm disk with a 225mm flywheel.

Yea, I bought a S2 flywheel/pressure plate/clutch combo when I purchased the conversion package. Now that I look at it, the "S2" clutch looks exactially the same as my old 944 clutch. Are they supposed to be a different size?

Thanks,

Jared

The S2 is 225 I believe, the 944NA is also 225.

The clutch disk fits into the flywheel just fine, no metal on metal contact when the disk is centered. But (from what I can tell) when I depressed the clutch pedal, the clutch disk fell and the metal area got cought on the surfaced area of the flywheel :P

If that is the case, then you have something seriously wrong in there. The clutch rides on the shaft from the torque tube, and when that is aligned and installed, the clutch can only turn. It can't have any up or down motion available since it rides on the splines. Take a picture of the pressure plate and the flywheel. I would be very curious as to what else is showing damage in there.

Hardly an expert here, but I know the 968 bell housing is longer than the 944 bell housing....but isn't the S2 bell housing also longer? If so, and you were using a 944 torque tube, wouldn't the torque tube shaft not be long enough past the end of the torque tube housing? Could this possibly be the problem, thus making it so the clutch isn't actually on the torque tube shaft, which is how it falls when the clutch is released?
