So after a full day of paint work, Nathan and I decided to work on the S. It had been running rather sub-par. First step was to hook back up one of the vaccum lines that we found. The PO had just unpluged it and put a bolt in the wrong end of it. Thinking that we had found the reason it was running so crummy we took it out for a ride. We were throughly impressed with it. It is amazing what a vaccum line can do.....
BUT THEN!!!!
We tried troubleshooting the reason for the car only starting when the dme relay was jumpered. It would not start off of a relay, only when jumpered. We thought and thought, then realized that it must be the alarm. Sure enough we tore back where the DME is, got out the alarm module, jumpered the hookups, (according to Clarks Garage), and started the car right up with a DME relay. It was VERY exciting.
Then...
We realized the car now sounded way way meaner than it did before just sitting there. Then we took the car out for a drive, and WOWOWOWOWOWWWWW. It must have added about 50hp. That thing was FASSSSST. It is going to turn out to be one heck of a fun car. It needs some work, but we are going to make it nice. Thanks everyone for all of the help. We need to post some pics of this thing. It is rough, but were working on that. I love these cars. worked from 9:00 am till about 12:00pm on nothing but porsches, completely skipped lunch, and I love it!

It really is running nice. I cant wait to do all the other little tune up projects and then see how hard it pulls. The only thing that has been done to it so far is plugs. Im impressed with it.

Mine was running crummy when I bought it too. Replacing some simple little things gave the same result...it felt like I gained 50hp and I loved it! A healthy N/A really isn't *that* slow. Last night my car was having one of those magical nights, the kind where the car feels extra fast for some unknown reason. I was smiling like a fat kid with a box of Krispy Kremes!
Anyway, what helped my car the most were new plugs, and a new TPS. I checked my vac lines and they were all OK. I also had my injectors cleaned and balanced, the fuel system pressure flushed, and the engine flushed. This helped a lot too.
Good luck and have fun! Next for me is a new clutch and lightweight flywheel. I can't wait for the end result...I'm not as excited about the labor ahead of me to install it though. LOL!

That's one of the best things about these old cars - if you get into them and sort them all out they just keep getting better and better.
New FPR seemed to make a surprisigly big power difference for me for some reason (lowered fuel pressure from >100 PSI to 55 PSI)...

Nathan, I would also keep my eyes peeled for another DME, that one looks like it has gotten wet one too many times, could make a difference... I know running a different DME in my car worked wonders.

I said keep your eyes peeled, as in your FINE now, just keep your eyes open and hopefully get a deal on one. I'll look out for you. We may be able to take that one apart and resolder some sections if need be, we'll just see how it goes.
