Man, my car is cranky in the morning. It usually is not my daily driver, but my father-in-law's car broke down (again...stupid Dodge) so he's borrowing my truck while his car is in the shop...so I drive the '44. I love driving it, but it is so cranky in the morning.
This morning (about 50* outside) when I started it up to warm it up, it sounded like the worst car ever. Idling at about 2-300, ticking and knocking under the hood...just a nasty sound. At this point I'm starting to wonder if it's going to make it to work.
Once it is warm, I head to work. When I turn off of my road to the next, it hesitates twice and almost stalls! Errr! I head to Whataburger for breakfast and sit in that line for a long time. Then when I leave, the car is running great. No hesitations, knocks, ticks, bad sounds...it runs great. All the way to work.
What's the deal here? Is my car just not a morning person? Is this common?

Did you really mean to say your car is idling at "2-300." Are you missing a zero there?
My car is a little sleepy every morning, lasts only a few minutes. By sleepy i just mean a little rough.

200-300...I typed what I would have said, "two to three hundred". Sorry for the confusion.
A little "sleepy" huh? That sounds like my car... X10. It was about 15 minutes and VERY rough. These cars have such individual personalities! Each one the same as the other, but just slightly different enough to earn their nicknames instead of just getting one.

Wait - Do you really mean to say your car idles at 200-300 revolutions per min? As oppose to the normal 1000 thereabouts. That seems wrong to me, even if the car is cold in the morning. It should idle a little higher than normal i would think.

Yep...200. I'm not missing a "0" or anything. Two hundred! It was LOW!!! Now keep in mind that after about 5 minutes of idling in the garage, the rpms were in their 1000-1200 range.
Mine also takes a couple of seconds to cycle the oil pressure up. This morning was a little different as the low rpms delayed the oil pressure building up. I was just about to cut it off due to lack of pressure when it shot up.
Vehicular menopause perhaps?

Tranny is notchy, creaks and groans from the sunroof, and the hatch...it's definately not a morning / cold start champ!
If it idled at 200, it would stop running! How low can you go?

also check the throttle switch under the throttle assembly. My car would sound like it was misfiring on startup especially when the engine was cold. A bad throttle switch leads to the computer not knowing if the throttle is open or closed at idle and therefore leading the computer to think the engine is running warmed up when the ignition is turned. This can be checked at the DME.
Also check the temp sensor which is the blue plug by the throttle body assembly. It may be bad too.
my car idles at 850 rpm, the N/A race car I drive idles at 950 rpm. The workshop manual says the N/A USA should idle at 900 +/- 50 when the engine is warm. There is a 7mm nut to the left of the thottle cam which is where the idle adjusment is.
