It depends on year and model. There is a big difference between early 928s and the GTS models. The 951 increased from 86-89, and there wer a lot of variations of the 911s.....

I don't know off the top of my head but I have several magazines at home that will have them. If you don't get your answer by then, I'll look it up.

I know the 86 951 sold for $30k and went up to ~$45k by 1989.
I think the 928 S4 was around $50k in the mid 80s and went up past $100k with the GTS in the early 90s.

It also depends a TON on options.

The prices above look about right.

What exactly is the argument? Typically the 944 looks bad in any comparison involving money 911's of the same era look much better depreciation wise . . . think none!

put in the make and model and it shows you a bunch of info about the car, including original MSRP.

well, someone was comparing buying a Vette new for $50k vs. buying a new Porsche for around $50k... Asshat chimed in that the only Posrche that held any kind of resale value was the 911. i was hoping to show that in comparison... the lower initial costs of the 944 and 928 carried about the same depreciation as your typical Vette. i had no idea the 928's cost so much brand new though.

He would be mostly correct, the only Porsche with any resale value are 911s. The 928s in the GT and certainly GTS have held very good value. Point out to him that you can pretty easily buy a 1986 Corvette for 5K but who would want to buy a car with a 4+3 auto? Corvette = 944/968/Boxster NOT 911 (though with the C6 they are getting closer).

The 928 was often the most expensive of the line. My 928's MSRP was around $70K, around 2x the 'Vette at the time. I suppose it's still worth a couple of Vettes.
