Read my comment above. That car has power steering.

Not to be 'sexist' here, but women seem to like the 944. My wife was the one that came home and told me I needed to buy one, and that was of course in hopes that she'd be allowed to drive it on occasion.

Gosh, should I start bashing Terry now? (you'll have to forgive me and whorepedo if we bash each other. We're friends and on several other boards together)

'PEDO you made me buy a girl car!!!!

Where would the electric sunroof switch be since that too would be a feature on an '84, correct?

Maybe a VIN number needs to be used to varify the year.
Yep, hence my earlier comment "I have never seen an 83 with power steering".

If you are looking for sometyhing for her to enjoy don't start with an eyesore that you will have to shell out a lot of money to fix. From experiance with my wife that thing would have to be disenfected before she would even lean against it.
I would say talk to your friend into lending his to you and take her for a spin. If she likes it start looking for a running car. Better to trouble shoot known problems that to fix one only to find out there are other issues. If you ask anyone here they will tell you you will be better off knowing the maint history that dealing with the unknown.

You could spend $5000 on that car and it wouldnt look as good as a $3900 high miler still all pieced together.

If you have a lot of free time go for it. I bought a car in similar shape with perfect compression engine/solid tranny and after 2 years it finally hit me that i can spend as much money buying a cherry S2 then i will spend restoring my 84 944. If you like projects it will be a lot of fun!!!
