Well, I bought this off of eBay:
HIRSCHMANN POWER ANTENNA FOR PORSCHE 911 924 928 944
Seller was "icanoutbidyou"
I bought this for an early N/A. It should work for earlies, mids and 924s. It took me about 45min to install and re-wire. The only thing that needed to change was the original surface mount, which could have been modified and later I am sure that I will, and the mounting brackets don't line up. You will loose the top bracket and need to drill out the lower bracket to accomidate the larger diameter of the lower mounting post on the new antenna.
Everything was supplied except tools. No regrets on purchase.
I am not trying to sell the product!!! I am trying to point out that it was an EASY replacement!

Yep.....you betcha! I've bought two of them off ebay and have installed them. A black one in one car, and a chrome one in the other. AUTA2040"s, but from another seller. They seem to work pretty good, but then again, I rarely listen to the radio. CD's turn my crank going down the road! Delbert McClinton's "Live", or Bump Kitchen's "Big Ol Bones" in particular.

I have a Hirschmann I'm trying to install in my '84. I'm having trouble routing the new wiring. It apparently comes thru the fender wall behind the fuse block somewhere, and it's feeding thru and disappearing. Any tricks to find where its comes out?
A lot of the problem is that I just don't fit well under there, it looks like I will have to pull the seat to be able to work decently under there and find the wiring.

dstt,
I don't think that anyone really fits well down there. You need to remove the fuse panel's on the earlies and I was laying on the seat/floor with my feet up in the air to do it. I guess taking out the seat would help too. Good luck!!
