Default Car Jacking

when working on one end of the car (front or rear) is it bad to just jack up that end?

Not Really;

The only thing that is bad is relying on the jack to keep it there while you work.

I always just jack up both sides (driver/pass.) though. If I'm workin up front, I make sure to have driver and passenger side jacked up. I put jackstands on both sides to support it, then put the jack on whatever side I'll be workin on underneath as well as kind of a backup. Feels pretty safe to me.

jeeper -

I hope you mean jacking up either side and putting jack stands to only hold up either the front or rear; not actually trying to lift the front or rear of the car with a jack (jacking points are only on the sides).

Jacking up each side and only putting jack stands under the proper points at either end to just hold up the front or rear is fine.

Cheers,

Tony K.

why not just take the extra few minutes to properly put the car on 4 jackstands? better safe than sorry.

Agreed. It doesn't really take any longer than the 20 seconds or whatever it takes to line up a second jack stand under each side!

It is good to chock the wheels on the end you did not jack up.

Had that same thought while I was doing it. Really just as easy to get the car up on all 4 stands.
