Default Gear ****

Question?
My gear **** is the el-chepo plastic/round version. I can slib the whole thing off the gearstick by just pulling upward. It is driving me insane!!! (Tho most people who know me would notice no change! LOL)
The gear stick itself is a shaft about 1" dia with a faint thread around the top.
I have looked at ***** here at autoparts stores and none are configured to fit over a shaft that large (story of my life!).
Where should I be looking? Or, can I glu(?) the plastic one down (last option!)
Thanks

OK Got pics (bit blurry but you get the idea.
I am not going to try and remove the whole thing. I tend to lose screws and have things left over .
The smaller bit on the top is rubber or soft plastic!

Well, that ain't stock. Must be some sort of SSK. Looks like you're going have to figure out who made it and ask them, or find something you like, have it drilled and figure out how to make it stay on.

Since there is a sort of thread on the end, I suspect the **** was supposed to twist on.

Good Luck.

That looks like a very early 944 or 924 set-up. I think if you remove the metal base(pull up) in the blurry pics you'll find the bronze colored piece that 944_S_Type has in his pics.

Those early ***** are funny. It should actually unclip from down lower, like the pics above show. If it was me, I would replace the ****/boot, however I bet some superglue would work just fine to keep the cover from sliding off!

Looks identical to mine, however on mine the rubber kept falling off to, there used to be a contact adhesive on the plastic before it slid over the rubber, it's obviously unglued itself, just a smear of adhesive would have it back together again.

If you push the boot down there should be a circlip holding the top part of the unit on, assuming it is stock. The top of it however doesn't look anything what I've got on mine, and it is, as far as i know, a stock early type, err.... if 1982 can be considered early and not nearly pre production, lol.

that is the same as the stock **** on my '87 924S. if the circlip is missing there's nothing holding it down.
