my reserve light came on today, I drove about 15-20 miles past that to get to a station, and filled up 18.6 gallons to shutoff. Isnt it a 21 or 22 gallon tank?

Below 1/2 tank my gas gauge is so erratic I can manipulate the level it's at by simply going around a corner. When I want more gas, turn left. When I want less, turn right.

I think it's the '87+ cars that had 21 gallon tanks. The '86 951 was listed as 18-gallons and I took a look at the difference. The 21-gallon tanks have two saddles bags that hang over the tranny, while the 18-gallon only has one. ...
Is that right?! I've definitley put 20 gallons into my tanke one time and I've got an '86 951. I knew I was running on fumes...but still.

My gas needle is off a little, maybe by 1/8 of an inch, so the needle got so low, I never thought I had a light. That is, until one day on the track!

YES....and that bulb should never be replaced too. The moment the fuel pump learns it can also suck air- it will soon plain suck on you i.e: FAIL. Whats the remaining fuel in the tank once the light comes on? Anybody know?

Does anyone else do the stereoscopic gas gauge stare? You start taking different vantagepoint angles to the gas gauge to see if you really have more than you think you do. Perhaps looking from below the steering column the angle will make it look like you have 3/8 a tank and not 1/4, leaving you to deduce, "Whoa, maybe I CAN make it!"
I do that as well... I never saw my light on (I thought it to be burned out..) untill last summer. I had no idea it was orange either!
