Default Egg crate hood liner...

What is the best way to get this **** off. My liner in not falling off or anything. This **** is hard to pull off. I just bought the new one from paragon and would like to put it on. But I worked on it for about 20 minutes and got little *** section off. Any help would be great...

Shop vac with a good scrapping attachment works well to get the large debris off.

I just used a putty knife to shave it down to the glue. I removed hood as not to fill up the engine area with debris.

Judson951,

I am getting ready to scrape mine off as well. I used the ShopVac method for the padding and it just left the adhesive. I was planning on taking a broad knife or scraper and a heat gun to it to remove the remainder. I'll let ya know how it works out.

Another good source for the replacements is 928Specialists, they recently began carrying 944 and 951 replacements.

put an old sheet over your motor and scrape away.. fold it up and throw it all out at once.

This is what I did and it worked great. I need to put a new hood liner in. Definitely post how the heat gun did; I still have glue and some backing under my hood.

I tried with the hood on and a sheet but my back wont contort that much. I decided to remove it completely and run without it. Get a buddy (best with three people) and remove the hood. Put it on some padded sawhorses, scrape off the large chunks with plastic putty knife and a heat gun. Then get an adhesive remover, (I used 3M from NAPA) a couple of different sized plastic putty knives and at least a six pack. Scrape away to get the majority then follow up with acetone to get the little crap off. Now the underside of my hood looks better than the top...

Scrap off the loose stuff.

Then I used 3M adhesive remover. I put some it a spray bottle and sprayed as needed. I also used an ice scraper (us Canadians live for these things), it has a long handle. Then I took a rag with paint thinner and wiped the residue.

As you noticed there are lots of chemicals here, so do it outside. Took me about an hour. Smooth as a baby's butt.

I went to a car wash and used the hot pressure wahser. I put a piece of plastic over the engine bay. Got all but the glue, was easy to do.

Why are you guys replacing them with new liners that are just going to do the same thing? Get that junk out of there and enjoy it!

Its sad the idiots at the body shop didn't do a good job of getting it off the hood before they painted it.

Yes they painted over top of the foam stuff. So if you scrape some of the foam off it turns red.

Farking idoits!!

Well,

The heat gun didn't work so good. I guess that the adhesive was heat resistant. DUH!!

I guess I'll try chemicals now. Let's see if the Goof-Off works.

I used MEK it worked to good and i ended up damaging the paint with it. So now the area that had the liner is painted black (on my red car), but at least the crap is gone.
