there's no replacement for dispacement.

then what's stopping the S from making that power?

"there's no replacement for dispacement."

It is true - other ways of gaining hp have compromises, whether its performance or reliability wise (generally).

actually you guys were right, i took off the power steering belt, and couldn't feel a difference, so just re-gearing it, wouldn't do much,,

so i am not in,,

Wow. Is your *** that finely tuned that it can measure a couple of hp? I doubt it. *** dynos are notoriously inaccurate. They measure incresases that don't exist and miss real ones.

Underdrive pulleys are proven methods of adding hp. Don't expect it to feel like a shot of nitrous. With an NA you have to take advantage of 2 hp here, 4 hp there, and on and on if you want to increase power.

Or you can just walk away saying it's impossible like everyone else. It isn't.

That was basically my point George. The gains are not earth shaking. May be there, but your aren't going to feel them through your kiester.

People don't seem to realize the way these gains add up. It's like pennies in a jar.

Many people think, "What, only 5hp? Forget it." But 5hp here, 3hp there, and another 7hp somewhere else...and all of a sudden you have 15hp. And that's a substantial difference.

As for the penny comparison? Well, last night I decided to take my pocket change jar to the Coinstar machine at Ralph's. Mostly dimes, nickels and pennies and some pocket lint that I've collected the past month or two. There was $47 and change in that friggin' jar! $43 after Coinstar took it's cut...lol.

But hopefully you get the point. Writing off 5hp is stupid. 5hp, plus 3hp, plus 7hp...not much by themselves...but together it adds up.

actually, i know that i wouldn't be able to feel a big difference, but i will put that extra money into making my MAf kit, where the gains are more worthwhile, so maybe in the future, but for now i will do maf first, and delete my AC for free by making a bracket myself,

slowly we will all get there

derek,,

i have the broadfoot racing pulleys. i've never dynoed my 2.7 engine after all the stuff i did to it. but, they look really cool. however, i do have problems keeping the alternator spinning at the minimum charge speed and what not.

Actually, most people would tell you otherwise. Then again, most people never bothered to test/tune/dyno an MAF kit on an 8v N/A. I can understand why given the outrageous prices on most MAF kits. In all honesty though...I am not expecting any more than 8-10hp at peak. It should, however, add useable power and tq across the bulk of the rpm range. That being said...the crank pulley is a much better power-per-dollar value than the MAF setup.

I'm putting one together pretty soon. Mainly because I get discounted prices on the parts. I wouldn't bother at retail prices. I've got the S-AFC ready to go, I'm just waiting to have my MAF calibrated to my 240cc injectors. Then I have to sort out the temp sensor and TPS and I'm done. Thankfully I'm getting a lot of help on the install! I'll let you know what I come up with after I dyno.

Trust me, I wasn't writing off the benefits of a couple HP here and a couple there. The only reason I brought it up was because a lot of folks on here expect to be crushed back in their seats by bolt on power "enhancers" and that just isn't going to happen with a set of pulleys. What will happen by underdriving your alternator though is that your headlights will dim when you are sitting at a stop sign or traffic light with the motor idling

Believe me, if a little here and a little there didn't seem worth it to me I wouldn't have my car on its weight loss program.

Good for you. My headlights are the 90/100 watt units Dan Wray sells in his kit. Even with a new 115 amp Bosch alternator my headlights sometimes dim while sitting at a light, usually in the summer if the fans kick on. This never happened when I wasn't underdriving my alternator.
